American civil liberties limit what the government can do.  These freedoms are not static; however, their scope is constantly changing based on decisions and interpretations made by the judicial branch.  For this week, review the “Landmark Supreme Court Cases—Incorporation” handout (located in Unit Four), select one case that you feel to be the most important, and tell the class why you feel this way

The Voting Rights Act in the Supreme Court

In 2013 the Supreme Court invalidated a section of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.  Watch the video above and read this New York Times Article and discuss whether or not you agree with the Court’s logic in declaring portions of the legislation unconstitutional.
