2 Language Overview

In this module, we’ll learn about how language should be tailored for each individual audience.  We’ll also learn how language can either make  your audience receptive to your message or not.  Language also conveys tone – or an implied feeling – that works on a subtle level to make your meaning clear without being pedantic, insulting or condescending.  Lastly, how your sentences are structured and the types of words you use are also dependent on your audience.  Some audiences may want a lot of detail and background, others do not.  There are also some grammar techniques that help your writing become more clear, and concise without being choppy and disjointed.  You may feel like you’re taking a grammar course in some of the sections, but please hang in there.  The items in the module are aimed at helping you become attuned to your audience, and, thus, a better technical writer.
