18 Performance Assessment: Power and Authority

Analyze types of power and authority and explore the political process in the United States.

Write a 500- to 600-words (minimum) paper thoroughly discussing each of the following:

• Define and differentiate between power and authority and describe the three types of authority
• Describe forms of government and explain political structure in the United States
• Define common forms of government: monarchy, oligarchy, dictatorship, democracy and identify real-life examples of each
• Discuss how voter participation affects politics in the U.S. and the significance of “one person, one vote” and explore the influence of race, gender, and class issues on the voting process
• Describe the varying theoretical perspectives on government and power
