- Describe the social construction of health, the cultural significance of health and illness, “medicalization,” and the “sick role” in society.

- Evaluate the aging of society and discuss the theoretical perspectives on aging
- Examine the process of aging and the biological, social, and psychological changes, death and dying, as well as perceptions associated with growing old in the U.S. and globally
- Describe and give examples of challenges facing the elderly, including poverty, ageism, and abuse.
