14 Performance Assessment: Marriage and Family

Define and describe marriage and family, variations in family life, and the social and interpersonal impacts of family challenges.

Write a 500- to 600-word (minimum) paper thoroughly discussing each of the following:

• Define and describe marriage and family and society’s current understanding of family
• Discuss changes in courtship, marriage and family patterns and differentiate between lines of decent and residence
• Discuss the variations in family life regarding the prevalence of single parents, cohabitation, same-sex couples, and unmarried individuals, and explain the social impact of changing family structures
• Differentiate between the three theoretical perspectives on marriage and family
• Describe the challenges families face in terms of the social and interpersonal impact of divorce and remarriage as well as the impact of domestic violence and family abuse
