89 Overview of Module 8

 This Module and Chapter 6 provide an overview of the environmental and historical contexts of Latin America and the Caribbean region and examine the development circumstances ofcountries in its Middle America, the Caribbean, and South America parts. The textbook describes the region’s land surface form and climate patterns, explains relationships between these patterns and human activities from ancient to contemporary times, and identifies environmental challenges to development caused by natural and cultural processes. Attention is given to the region’s colonial legacy and to cultural and economic changes resulting from globalization.
