Overview

A social problem is defined as some aspect of society about which people are concerned and which they would like to change. In this course we will study 8 social problems from a sociological perspective. For each problem, we will see what the three main theoretical perspectives in sociology have to say, we will examine the main research findings about the problem and we will take a look at some social policies that might help to solve the problem.

The course will be organized into 8 learning modules. In each module you will read two chapters from the text, take a multiple choice exam on the chapter(s), and participate in a seminar. You will also be required to submit one research paper towards the end of the course.
